SANGUEM: Truck and heavy machinery owners from Sanguem are upbeat and elated over the lifting of the mining ban by the Supreme Court.
No sooner the Supreme Court had passed the interim order thereby lifting the ban on mining activities in the State, mining-dependent people remained glued to their television sets to get more details on the order passed.
Many truck owners who had parked their trucks idle in front of their houses were seen washing their trucks with high hopes of immediate resumption of mining activities.
The mining-dependent people now eagerly await the State government’s decision to declare the actual resumption of mining activities. With monsoon fast approaching, people have pinned hopes on the Parrikar government to chalk out its course of action on the resumption of mining activities in the State.
With no mining activities being allowed within 1 km from the buffer zone, eyebrows are also raised by the people in Sanguem over the fate of the sole mine in operation at Tolem.
