The Margao Mu nicipal Council (MMC) has ordered an internal inquiry after two antique chandeliers were found missing from the council hall. MMC Chief Officer Madhu Narvekar said the Accounts and Tax Officer (ATO) along with other municipal staff have been directed to investigate the matter and ascertain when the chandeliers went missing. The inquiry will also examine whether there were any lapses in record-keeping, custody or security that may have led to their disappearance.
The chandeliers, which had adorned the municipal hall for several years, are consid ered antique fixtures of the civic body’s premises. The inquiry has been tasked with establishing the circumstanc es under which the items went missing and identifying responsibility, if any. Responding to queries on whether a police complaint would be filed, Narvekar said the civic administration would first await the findings of the internal inquiry.

Based on the report submitted by the ATO and other officials, the council will take an ap propriate decision on further action, including approaching the police if required.
