Two arrested for transporting wood illegally at Khandepar

PONDA: Forest officials arrested two persons and seized a Bolero Jeep from Maharashtra for illegally transporting khair tree logs, at Khandepar Opa junction on Saturday night.

PONDA: Forest officials arrested two persons and seized a Bolero Jeep from Maharashtra for illegally transporting khair tree logs, at Khandepar Opa junction on Saturday night.
According to sources, a forest team from Usgao Range Forest Office was patrolling in Khandepar area under the guidance of RFO Dilip Bethkikar on Saturday night, when it spotted a jeep carrying khair tree logs to Maharashtra. When asked to produce permit, the driver could not do so, hence, he and another occupant were arrested and the vehicle was seized.
The arrested are identified as Gangaram Kopre (the driver) and Rajan Godkar, both residents of Sawanthawdi. Bethkikar said that this is the third vehicle seized by them for transporting wood illegally, this year.
