CANACONA: Two foreign nationals were crushed to death after coming under the wheels of an oncoming truck while another suffered grievous injuries while they were reportedly overtaking a moving bus on Friday afternoon at Panna in Agonda village of Canacona taluka.
Locals who witnessed the accident said that two Enfield two-wheelers ridden by foreigners one with single rider and the other with a pillion were proceeding one after the other towards Canacona. On reaching a sharp turn at Panna, the rider of one of the two-wheeler decided to overtake a local bus going in the same direction the other rider also followed him. But unfortunately, a truck arrived in the opposite direction at the same time, with no option left one of the two wheelers got hit to the front portion of the truck, while the second two-wheeler also fell on the road.
Canacona police have been identified the dead as Daniel John Bulgaes (39) and Hallah Rathels Whitley (23), both UK nationals.
The rider of the second two-wheeler, Gary Powel, also from UK, was seriously injured; he was taken to Canacona community health centre from where after first aid, he was referred to Hospicio hospital.
After conducting the accident scene panchanama, bodies of both the victims were sent to Hospicio hospital for post mortem and preservation. “Since the victims are foreign nationals their respective embassies will be notified,” police said.
