The incident occurred on Friday morning when Animal Rescue Squad member Gourish Naik lodged a complaint with the Margao police alleging that animals were being illegally slaughtered in the market area.
A Margao police team led by PI Sudesh Naik and PSI Melson Colaco that rushed to the Gandhi market found that the animals were slaughtered at the market, even though the accused maintained that the animals were slaughtered at Belgaum and brought to the market. “The circumstances at the Gandhi market showed that the animals were slaughtered in the morning”, PI Sudesh said, adding that the two persons have been booked under section 8 of the Goa Animal Preservation Act, 1995.
Complainant Gourish Naik informed that the illegal slaughter of cows have been going on in the Gandhi market and other places in Margao right under the nose of the government authorities.
He also condemned the cowardly attack on the Animal Rescue Squad activists at Chorla ghat by unknown miscreants, while demanding action against the guilty.
