VASCO, JUNE 15 Two persons died, while three others were seriously injured when a speeding Tata Sumo jeep rammed into a motorcycle and some pedestrians at Pajentar-Cortalim on Monday at about 8 am.

Two persons died, while three others were seriously injured when a speeding Tata Sumo jeep rammed into a motorcycle and some pedestrians at Pajentar-Cortalim on Monday at about 8 am.
According to Verna police, the mishap occurred when a speeding Tata Sumo (GA-06-A-2536), which was proceeding towards Panjim, went on the wrong side of the road and rammed against Hero Honda Passion motorcycle (GA-05-C-5602), before hitting the pedestrians who were waiting for the bus at Pajentar.
PSI Gomes informed that the motorcyclist Kalpesh Gaude (26) from Panchwadi-Ponda died on the spot.
Police have identified the pedestrian as one Sunil Naik (33) of Thana-Cortalim, who succumbed to injuries at GMC Hospital in Bambolim in the afternoon. Another pedestrian, Rajan Kumar was seriously injured in the accident.
Police said that one unidentified person was also seriously injured in the accident and it was not known if he was a pedestrian or a pillion rider. The Sumo driver, Rohidas Gaonkar (24) from Maruti Mandir, Birla-Sancoale, also sustained injuries.
Police further said that due to heavy showers, sumo went on the wrong side of the road and rammed into motorcycle and pedestrians before hitting an electricity pole.
Verna Police has arrested the Sumo driver, Rohidas Gaonkar (24) in this connection.
