MARGAO: It’s official. Water samples of the two drinking water wells at Sirvodem ward have revealed that the water is unfit for human consumption. However, contamination of the water due to seepage of sewerage has been ruled out.
Margao Urban Health Officer, Dr Sanjay Dalvi, told Herald that the health centre has written to the owners of the well to empty these so that the health officials could carry out disinfection.
Replying to a question, Dr Dalvi said that the status of the other wells in the locality can also be checked to clear doubts vis-a-vis the contamination. Contamination of the drinking water wells had raised eyebrows amongst the local populace, with many attributing the pollution to seepage of sewage. Dr Dalvi, however, pointed out that the report has ruled out contamination by sewage, adding that the report has attributed the pollution to other sources.
