PONDA: The work of laying underground power lines to solve the power problem in Shiroda-Borim road is going on, on a war footing. However, the problem of traffic congestion especially during the peak hours in the morning and evening is creating inconvenience to motorists and travellers. Travellers have demanded that police or home guards be deployed in this area to avert any untoward incidents.
The road from Shiroda to Borim is narrow and people travelling through the area are currently facing severe traffic congestion. Long queues of vehicles are seen on the road in the peak morning and evening hours. Passenger buses plying on this road get stuck for a long time resulting in employees not reaching their workplaces on time. Also, there are instances of minor accidents resulting in intense altercations between vehicle users.

Instances of water pipelines being damaged while digging for laying of power cables, has kept public works department (PWD) employees on their toes. Citizens have demanded that PWD officials must be present on the spot while digging roads, so as to guide the labourers and avoid damage to water pipelines. The water supply to the locals has been disrupted several times, and this has annoyed housewives.
Atul Gaonkar, a private sector employee said, there is always traffic congestion when we are on our way to Ponda in the morning and also while returning home from work. I always arrive late to work, and return home late these days. I can understand that underground power lines will surely solve our power problems, but at the same time there is a need to deploy police or guards to manage traffic during the day time where roads have been dug up.
