PORVORIM: Cabinet Minister Deepak Dhavalikar on Friday informed the State Legislative Assembly that government has not enforced nightshifts for women following objections from the employees unions.
“When the Centre had sought suggestions on implementing night shifts for women employees, the labour unions and others concerned objected to it. This is the reason we have not taken the proposal forward yet,” he told the House replying to BJP MLA Nilesh Cabral’s remark that many youth including women are willing to work during the late hours, particularly in the pharmaceutical sector.
Dhavalikar informed the House that the government is ensuring health safety of the workers employed at various industries. Similarly, the hygiene of the surroundings where an industry is operating is also being taken care of.
“The hygiene survey is being conducted…. There is also a special bus wherein blood tests of workers are carried out,” he said allaying fears by certain MLAs.
