Uproar at meet against gambling

MAYEM: Uproarious scenes prevailed at an anti-gambling awareness meeting at Kasarwada-Morlem, Sattari, on Sunday when some supporters of gambling activities reportedly attempted to interrupt the meeting and also damaged a car.

MAYEM: Uproarious scenes prevailed at an anti-gambling awareness meeting at Kasarwada-Morlem, Sattari, on Sunday when some supporters of gambling activities reportedly attempted to interrupt the meeting and also damaged a car.
The anti-gambling awareness meeting was organised by Sattari Jagruti Yuwa Manch and Morlem Sarpanch Krishna Gaonkar at Devasthan hall at Kasarwada-Morlem.
The meeting was organised under the guidance of Women Association President Adv Swati Kerkar to make people aware about ill effects of gambling.
When social worker Ranjit Rane was about to address the gathering, the gambling supporters attempted to interrupt him. However, Rane continued the speech and highlighted how gambling has resulted into destroying the wealthy families. At this juncture, some gambling supporters objected and said gambling was their source of livelihood.
In her speech, Adv Swati Kerkar called upon the people to stay away from gambling to lead a better life. She also highlighted the need to respect law and order. Vishwesh Parab, Vishnu Parodkar and Sitaram Gawas also spoke on ill effects of gambling.
Following the speeches, the gambling supporters became furious. Some protestors even damaged a car belonging to Ranjit Rane. Tense situation prevailed for some time before it was controlled.
