PANJIM: A day after Pernem police arrested a motorcycle pilot for molesting a US citizen last week, the victim thanked Goa Police for prompt action.
“While still shaken by the events, I’m happy to report this man was tracked… I am grateful for the Indian authorities who acted so fast and the incredible support by all of you for sharing and offering kind words,” the woman, who hails from New York posted on her Facebook page, as she emphasized on the significance of the #MeToo campaign.

She also slammed those who questioned the authenticity of her ordeal shared on a public platform. “You are why women are scared to come forward with the truth. You are why there is systemic misogyny and abuse of women across the world,” she posted.
The tourist had taken to Facebook to reveal the crime while she was holidaying at Morjim during the Republic Day weekend. The incident occurred when she requested the bike rider, who was later identified as Isidor Fernandes, to drop her off at a hotel in Morjim.
Goa Police contacted the victim asking her to lodge a complaint, and simultaneously launched an inquiry to identify the man, whose photo the victim had uploaded on her Facebook page. North Goa Superintendent of Police Chandana Chaudhary said soon after receiving a formal complaint, the local police arrested the 44-year-old Anjuna resident.
