MARGAO: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President John Fernandes has said that he has requested sitting MP Francisco Sardinha to work for the party’s North Goa candidate Ravi Naik, while exuding confidence that the latter will soon fall in line.
John further said that he would write to the Youth Congress President Valanka Alemao and other frontal organisations in the state to start working for the party’s two candidates.
“We are talking to the South Goa sitting MP Francisco Sardinha. I am confident that he would fall in line. He has been requested to support the North Goa candidate”, he said, after a question to comment on Sardinha’s decision to teach the Congress a lesson in the coming polls. On Valanka Alemao, John said the YC president has not resigned from the party. He was reacting to a query on Valanka’s silence over her father’s decision to quit the party.
Asked whether the party would initiate action against Valanka and other Congress leaders if they failed to work for the party candidates, John said, “Let us cross the bridge when we come to it”. He said he was not the president of the party when no action was initiated against party dissidents in the past. “I mean business now,” he asserted.
