VALPOI: Ramdas Shirodkar and Sahazin Shaikh were elected unopposed as chairperson and vice chairperson of the Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) on Thursday. They, along with the other eight councillors, were also sworn into office.
As decided by Valpoi MLA Vishwajit Rane, Shirodkar and Shaikh will take charge for18 months before handing over the posts to other councillors from Rane’s panel.
The two BJP-backed councillors were present for the swearing-in ceremony, but they stayed away from the election, which was attended by all eight councillors from Rane’s panel. Praveen Parab was the presiding officer for the election.
Shirodkar stated that he will work for the all-round development of Valpoi under the guidance of Vishwajit Rane and Pratapsingh Rane.
He also urged the residents of Valpoi to cooperate for the betterment of the town.
