VALPOI: Some liquor outlet owners from Valpoi on Friday called upon the Supreme Court to review it order banning liquor outlets within 500 meters of State and National highways.Bar owner Tukaram Haldankar said that the liquor outlet owners do not agree with the reasoning of the Supreme Court for banning the outlets.
“People, who want drink, will go and drink at any place. Therefore, closing down the liquor outlets that are within 500 meters of State and National highways, is not the solution. The government has to intervene and request the Court to change its decision to save us,” Haldankar said.
Earlier, they met Valpoi Excise Inspector Datta Guade and placed before him the difficulties they would face when the Supreme Court ban is implemented. Meanwhile, more than 88 bars in Sattari taluka will be affected by the Supreme Court ban on liquor outlets, as they are within the distance of 500 meters from the Highways.
The affected outlets are in Valpoi (20), Honda (29), Poriem (39), Morlem (4), Keri Panchayat (18) and Dongurli (7).
This is as per the survey conducted by Sattari Mamlatdar Rajesh Azgaonkar along with the Excise and PWD officials, recently.
These 88 bars are located along the highway from Honda to Valpoi and from Poriem to Keri.
