Valpoi: Lack of funds has prompted the Valpoi municipality to take difficult decisions. The council has sent notices to banks and credit union societies based in the municipality area which have been operating without legal business and sales licenses for the past several years. The municipality is expected to gain a huge sum in revenue after this move.

The action initiated by municipality’s Chief Officer Suryajirao Rane sends a clear notice to the respective entities to obtain the licenses within the next 15 days. According to sources, around 30 such institutions are carrying out operations without required papers. This will also help municipality to pay their workers salary regularly which has been a struggle in recent times.
When contacted, Rane said, “The Municipality had not paid enough attention to these establishments till now. Obtaining a license by these entities is compulsory and it’s also mentioned in the municipality rules. The notices have been sent to the respective banks and credit societies asking to do the needful within the next fifteen days. This will hopefully strengthen the municipality’s financial condition.”
