Vehicles undergo thorough search in Canacona .

Vehicles plying along the highway and internal roads in Canacona taluka were subjected for scrutiny on Sunday evening, even as police remained tightlipped parrying questions saying the exercise is a regular phenomenon.
Police, after asking the motorists to stop, searched dickeys, cabins, under seats of four-wheelers and tool boxes of two-wheelers.
Canacona PI Raju Raut Dessai was seen personally leading a police party at Char Rasta, as more police teams were seen stopping vehicles at Palolem-Agonda road junction at Devabhag, while another team was stationed at Panna bus stop at Agonda.
Police sources informed that similar nakabandis are also erected at Polem check post and scrutiny of vehicles plying on either side is strictly resorted.
At one point, Canacona PI Dessai was heard directing a constable not to open bags of vehicle occupants, but look underneath the vehicle dickey instead.
The manner in which search of vehicles was conducted, it looks like police are on look-out for arms or ammunitions, but surprisingly some police armed with a gun were seen conducting the exercise with bare hands or without any searching gadgets.
Canacona PI Dessai said: “This is one of those several Nakabandhis and there is no specific reason for doing so.”
He replied in the negative when asked if this is a ‘black-rose’ exercise, which normally police undertakes to refresh their agility to trap decoys.
However, sources informed Nakabandi is erected at several other places in entire South Goa with some attributing it to the reported Guardian Angel Church statues desecration, while others saying the strict scrutiny is due to trouble at opposition over fish transportation at Assolna in Salcette.
There were also reports that ongoing Nakabandi is resorted to as a result of terror threat at national capital, which also kept police and other similar agencies on tenterhooks throughout the day at Delhi.
Late evening, it is learnt through police sources that every vehicle is checked after a message is received from police headquarters.
