Vendors allege harassment by PMC

PONDA: Ponda vendors’ leader Kishore Mamlekar claimed that the livelihood of the poor vendors is affected, as Ponda Municipal Council (PMC) is involving them in cases in police and court matters on the sopo issue and said PMC should stop the harassment immediately.
Many vendors attended the court in Ponda on Monday and some of them had to wait outside as the courtroom got packed due to the large number of vendors.
Addressing media persons, Mamlekar said all the vendors from Ponda market shut down their business and were present for the hearing at the court, where five vendors from Ponda market were called by the court after a petition was filed by PMC market inspector late Mahadev Naik.
“Majority of the vendors from the shed are not paying sopo and PMC should not harass only a few of them by filing police complaints,” he said and added that the next hearing is scheduled for April 18.
