PANJIM, SEPT 27
The final verdict in the rape case filed against serial killer Mahanand Naik will be delivered on October 1 in the City Sessions Court.
The alleged serial killer became infamous as dupatta killer, for using dupatta to kill his naive victims.
A girl residing at Shiroda in her twenties had initially complained against Naik of raping her. In the complaint to Ponda police station in the last week of April, 2009, she had said that Mahanand was blackmailing her with the semi nude pictures.
The college going girl was apparently friend of Mahanand’s wife and was often visiting his place as she was part of the drama group.
The rape case led Ponda police into series of murders by the 40-year-old accused, whose last count was 18.
Earlier in the beginning of this year, Mahanand was acquitted of killing Bhagu Upaskar, a woman from Ponda and subsequently in the first week of March, he was acquitted of killing Surat Gaonkar. In April, he was also acquitted from the charges of killing Nirmala Amonkar.
The court had acquitted Mahanand from the charges as the police were not able to establish the offence against him.
