According to Verna police, a complaint was lodged by the deceased’s wife on Tuesday that on Sunday evening, near Mount Mary, Verna, the accused persons – Viraj Mazgaonkar (25) and Sandesh Sattarkar allias Soni (25) residents of Mount Mary, Verna assaulted her husband Surendra Betkikar (42), a resident of Mount Mary Verna with slaps and fist-blows thereby causing grievous injuries. The duo also assaulted her brother-in-law.
“Surendra Betkikar was hospitalised on Sunday and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday while undergoing treatment,” police disclosed.
Initially, the police had registered the case under Sections 323, 325 read with Section 34 of the IPC. Now, with the death of Surendra, police have added murder charges under Section 302 against the accused who have been arrested. Further investigation is in progress.
