Vigilance begins probe against govt official

Vigilance Department has initiated inquiry into the complaint against Deputy Director of Transport Pralhad Desai filed by a private bus operator.
“The inquiry started soon after the complaint was registered. Now the process of recording statements of RTO officials is on,” Police Inspector, vigilance, Nilesh Rane told Herald.
He confirmed that on June 23, member secretary of Road Transport Authority (RTA) was called for recording statement. “If Desai is found guilty then the action will be taken as per the law,” Rane said.
It may be recall that on June 7, 2010, bus operator Sudip Tamankar and his wife Shraddha Tamankar had registered a complaint with the directorate of vigilance against Desai for seeking bribe of Rs 80,000 for the renewal of stage carriage permit on Chimbel to Panaji route.
“Desai stated that the said amount is required to be given to transport Minister Ramkrishna Dhawaliar for the renewal of the permit. He further stated that the permit is stopped due to non fulfillment of the demand of minister,” the complaint by Tamankar reads.
Tamankar has urged Vigilance Department to register a complaint under Section 166, 167, 409 and 420 of IPC against Desai.
