MARGAO: Saying that the Centre is in total darkness about Goa government’s Dabolim strangulate plan, Goemkar convenor, MLA Vijai Sardessai has demanded an in depth study on the feasibility of Mopa airport and other matters including the future of the livelihood of Goans dependent on Tourism and the deliberate denial of facilities to Dabolim airport.
”When I met Union Civil Aviation Secretary K N Srivastava to hand over a memorandum, I was shocked that he was no well informed. He was unaware of the parking land de-notification. It is a pity that the Civil Aviation secretary has totally forgotten about the commitment made by the Goa government to his own ministry in May 2006 for acquisition of land for Dabolim airport and has now come to Goa to oversee the land acquisition at Mopa”, he told newsmen.
He said the construction of the Mopa airport would permanently damage the ecology and environment of the area and demanded to know whether the authorities have carried out an EIA study on the issue. “I will raise the issue in the House, but people will have to arise. Presently, a tender for financial consultant for Mopa is on the net. I wonder whether all these steps are being taken under a cloak of secrecy to deliberately mislead Goans”, he said.
Meanwhile, Sardessai has expressed surprise that local NGOs, who were actively protesting against the Delhi rape are conspicuous by their total silence and absence when a Niz Goenkar is a victim of a similar crime. He appealed to the organizers of the Fatorda bandh not to go ahead with their plan on Sunday and await police action till January 29.
