Villages inspected to assess crop loss

An inspection committee appointed by Canacona Mamlatdar to assess the damages to paddy fields, has reportedly inspected two prime farming villages in the taluka, where about 1,150 farmers have been identified as victims.
It may be recalled that Canacona Mamlatdar Chandrakant Shetkar appointed teams consisting of the local sarpanch, panchas and Talathis to personally visit the rain affected farmlands, after Poinguinim MLA Ramesh Tawadakr submitted over 600 applications for government compensations.
Accordingly, the team first inspected Cotigao on Friday. Cotigao Sarpanch Rajesh Gaonkar and other panchas, talathis Dattaram Velip, Ramesh Naik, Deepak Gaonkar, Ramesh Velip and Malikesh Bhandari inspected the village farms and identified 550 farmers who were affected in Cotigao village.
The team of talathis later moved to Gaondongrim village and assisted by village sarpanch Vishant Gaonkar and some panchas, visited the destroyed paddy fields and identified 600 affected farmers.
According to Canacona Zonal Agriculture Officer Rajesh Dessai, Circle Inspector Shri Adpad had also assisted the inspection team.
“The physical inspection teams will visit more villages in the next few days, before the report will be submitted to the government for necessary compensation to the affected farmers,” said Dessai.
Meanwhile, the sunny weather during the last two days prompted farmers to make efforts to salvage their damaged paddy crop.
