Congress candidate Vishwajeet Rane on Thursday filed his nomination papers for the October 18 bye-election for Valpoi constituency, as hundred of supporters gathered outside the Mamlatdar’s office Valpoi.
Rane filed his nomination papers before Returning Officer Raju Gawas at Mamlatdar’s office Valpoi at about 11.30 am. The returning officer was assisted by Joint Mamlatdar (Sattari) Trupti Rane.
Rane was accompanied by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat, Congress President Subash Shirodkar, Power Minister Alex Sequiera, Pale MLA Pratap Gawas, Valpoi Municipal Council (VMC) Vice Chairperson Umesh Gulelkar, former MLA Ashok Parob, former ZP member Ladu Harvalkar, Dr Divya Vishwajeet Rane, VMC councilors and panchas of various panchayats in Valpoi constituency.
According to sources, Vishwajeet Rane filed two sets of nomination papers.
The proposer for one set was Umesh Gulelkar,while Sayaji Rao Dessai was the proposer for the other set.
Later speaking to press, Rane expressed confidence of winning the seat with a thumping majority.
“I have full faith in the people of Valpoi constituency. They will do the right thing on October 18 and teach a bitter lesson to BJP. I am sure BJP will be totally wiped out from Valpoi,” stated Rane.
“I am contesting the election on three issues, developments carried out by me in Valpoi, employment given to youth in Valpoi and women empowerment,” he informed.
“I am 100 per cent sure that people want development and to make this possible, they will only prefer to vote for me,” he claimed.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) President Subash Shirodkar informed that Vishwajeet Rane is the right candidate in Valpoi constituency and Congress does not have any other candidate better than him to be fielded in Valpoi.
“I don’t think that there is any other candidate Congress has better than Vishwajeet Rane to be fielded in Valpoi constituency. I have full confidence that he will win with a comfortable margin,” said Shirodkar.
Meanwhile, former MLA Ashok Parob has filed his nomination as dummy candidate and the proposer is Akhtar Shah.
