PANJIM: A West Bengal native who was accused of cheating an Uttar Pradesh businessman of Rs 10.50 lakh on the pretext of starting a business venture, has been arrested.
Vijaykumar Ohja, residing in Porvorim but originally from UP complained that from January 2014 till date, Dichand Kothari, resident of WB and a native of Rajastan induced him to pay Rs 12 lakh to set up a business partnership.
Ohja paid Rs 10.50 lakh to the accused in various instalments through two private banks but the accused failed to start the project.
In yet another a job racket, one Manisha Sawant was duped of Rs 50,000 on pretext of providing a government job in October 2013. The accused Omkar Halarnkar, from Chimbel has been arrested for the offence. In her complaint to Panjim police station, the woman, also a Chimbel resident alleged that Halarnkar lured her into believing that he would give her a government job in the electricity department. “He asked her to pay Rs 2.50 lakh for the job and took an advance payment of Rs 50,000…he failed to repay the amount, after which she filed a complaint,” a police officer disclosed.
