OLD GOA: Stating that people of St Andre constituency will not allow the shifting of services from the Mandur health and training centre, MLA Vishnu Surya Wagh warned his own government of severe consequences if the government decides otherwise.
Speaking at a meeting at Mandur on Friday, Wagh further demanded that the health centre should be upgraded into an 80-bedded hospital with departments for general medicine, orthopaedics, gynaecology, etc.
“The government should also make available X-Ray, MRI and other services here so that the people from Mandur and adjoining villages benefit,” he added.
Wagh further said when Health Minister Laxmikant Parsekar visited the health centre, he was apprised of the needs to renovate and upgrade it.
“However, in one of his replies in the recently concluded Assembly session, the Mandur health and training centre did not find a mention for up gradation,” he added while raising doubts that there could be plans to shift the services, particularly the internship, elsewhere.
“At all costs, we will not allow the shifting of Mandur health and training centre elsewhere,” Wagh reiterated while sending out an ultimatum that the people will be forced to protest over any such moves.
“I have already spoken to Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and he has assured that the health centre will be renovated by GSIDC and a consultant will soon be appointed for the same,” said Wagh while demanding that the consultant should incorporate the views of the people.
Wagh said during the period of renovation, a temporary structure should be put up at the space available inside the health centre premises and the services should be continued from there, and not shifted elsewhere.
