PANJIM: Water Resources Minister Vinod Palyekar on Wednesday said that reservoirs in the State have water sufficient to meet the drinking requirements of the State for another month. The minister said that the water levels in all six main reservoirs have not touched the minimum level.
Data released by WRD states that the water level at Selaulim dam, which is the State’s biggest reservoir and is situated in South Goa, is at 31.66 metres, the water level at Anjunem dam in Sattari taluka (North Goa) is at 72.83 metres, which means it can provide drinking water for a month to the people dependent on it.
The water level at Chapoli dam in North Goa is at 31.61 metres, at Amthane dam in South Goa it is at 44.85 metres which can provide uninterrupted supply of water for two months. In Panchawadi dam in South Goa, the water level is at 22.32 metres enough for two months.
However, Opa which is located in Ponda taluka has a water quantity that can sustain for just 15 days with the level at 4.40 metres.
The Minister said his department has been observing the water levels of all the dams on a daily basis to ensure there is no scarcity of drinking water in the State.
