Water pipeline from Salaulim Dam bursts, repairs underway

MARGAO: The main water pipeline from Salaulim dam ruptured in Cansaulim village on Saturday thereby leading to restricted water supply to the talukas of Salcete and Mormugao.

PWD officials rushed to the site and repair works which began later in the day, are expected to be completed by Sunday, by which time water supply is expected to be restored properly. “A leakage has occurred to the 1200 mm dia MS Salaulim  pipeline at Consua Cansaulim . The repair work is in progress.

 The water supply to Salcete and Mormugao Talukas will be partially affected. The work is expected to be complete by early morning,” said Vishwamber Bhende,  Executive Engineer, WD ‑ IX (PHE), PWD, Fatorda, on Saturday evening.

This rupture  comes at a time when there have been complaints about water being supplied at low pressure at the tail end of the talukas. 

There have been other minor incidents of water pipeline leakage as well in the two talukas.
