PANJIM: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant’s statement to eliminate the drug trade in the State within the next three months (December 2, 2022) has raised many an eyebrow, with politicians across the State questioning his ability to crack down on the drug menace.
Goa Forward Party (GFP) president Vijai Sardesai said, “Hyderabad Police Commissioner has said ‘Our Chief Minister (K Chandrashekar Rao) has directed us that not a gram of illicit drugs should be found in the State’. Let the DGP of Goa tell Goans what our chief minister has instructed him regarding drugs in the State.”
“Thanks to Sawant, the drug trafficking and peddling machinery is more efficient and well-oiled than many of the govt depts he handles,” Sardesai added.
He further said, “As a Goemkar, I’m ashamed that my State is the one that’s corrupting the rest of the country by being allowed to be the central wholesale distributor of drugs. The BJP govt in Goa and the CM are answerable to the whole of India and he must apologise especially to the youth of the country.”
“Goa is the second home for the rich and the first home for drug barons. What’s appalling is that the CM doesn’t seem to grasp the seriousness of this situation. He’s still tweeting birthday wishes and on events in other states. He’s fast becoming Nero who fiddled when Rome burned,” he added
