MARGAO: Fisheries Minister Avertano Furtado has said there is no ban on fishing by motorised canoes on condition they do not carry out fishing with purse seine nets and engines beyond 10 HP.
He told media persons at Mobor that the sea was rough on Tuesday, adding that would be the probable cause behind the mishap. “When the incident was brought to my notice, I immediately intimated the Coast Guard who were prompt in pressing into service their helicopter,” he said.
“I am still to receive a report whether the ill-fated canoe had violated the ban provisions or not. The fishermen were warned not to venture out in the sea because of bad and rough weather,” Avertano added.
