Will Mickky–Lyndon be the new friends turned foes?

NESHWIN ALMEIDA
BETALBATIM: Mickky’s statement to the press on Monday that he plans to go back home and contest on a UGDP ticket and more importantly merge the Goa Vikas Party with the United Goans Democratic Party has not gone down well with his best friend Lyndon Monteiro.
The current situation is this way; Mickky Pacheco is the GVP’s Supremo and MLA from Nuvem. The only other MLA Caitu Silva has already abandoned the party and announced that he will contest independent.
On Monday Mickky too announced that he will contest on a UGDP ticket but he also said that the GVP was alliance partners and supported the BJP in the past hence the bad tag of being BJP’s alliance partners is not the baggage he wants to carry and hence he wants to merge the GVP with the UGDP.
GVP’s President is Mickky wife Viola Pacheco and his best friend Lyndon Monteiro is the General Secretary while the GVP has a governing body consisting of the Bandodkars and Cabrals and many others.
Now Lyndon has been the Goa Meat Complex President throughout the BJP’s tenure while Mickky was a minister in this government but had to resign to go and languish in jail for a past assault case.
“Mickky before making the merger statement should have raised it with us at the party and we as a party would take a decision of merger. Mickky jumped the gun, antagonized the party elders and has left us fuming,” asserted Lyndon.
Lyndon claims that it’s wrong to say that the BJP tag has defamed GVP. When we asked him if his personal closeness with the BJP makes him oppose Mickky and Mickky’s views?
“In politics there are no enemies. I believe we have a party setup and Mickky should have come there first on his merger statements. See actually my works at the meat complex and in this government has got me accolades from all the minorities so where is the question of a bad tag?” questions Lyndon who admits that he will stiff with the GVP and not go for any merger.
Lyndon has also jumped the gun and admitted that he will contest even if it means against Mickky if the GVP wants it that way.
“We have called a party’s executive body meeting on Wednesday in Panjim to decide the fate of the GVP and its support this polls. Here there is no room for friends and enemies but Mickky was wrong to assume our decision would be to merge.” Claims an angry Lyndon.
Meanwhile speaking to Herald, Mickky asserted that he has spent many hours of late contemplating on the people associated with him and he felt that, “I came to politics with no friends or no assistance and gave my all. So there is no question of what pleasing Lyndon and others. I actually regret any of these friends sometimes but I will do what my people and voters want and not the party per say, clarified Mickky.
UGDP welcomes Mickky’s
home coming
MARGAO: The UGDP has welcomed the decision of Nuvem MLA and Goa Vikas Party legislator Mickky Pacheco to return to the party.
UGDP leader Adv Anacleto Viegas said that the outside parties cannot reduce or uproot corruption in Goa and it is only the regional parties that can help to remove corruption. Quoting the adage “Rolling stone never catches moss”, Anacleto said that the leaders have been moving all over political dais but the need is to settle down and come together under UGDP and fight for Goa’s betterment. When asked about Babush Monserratte Anacleto said, “Babush is characterless. But to unite for one cause we are ready to unite the Good Bad and the Ugly in the UGDP.”
