VASCO: Art and Culture Director Prasad Lolyekar on Tuesday stated that the Art and Culture Department will take charge of the Ravindra Bhavan at Baina only after inspection.
It may be recalled that the Ravindra Bhavan Baina which is under construction amid objection from the locals has changed many dates of its inauguration, the latest being May 30.
The inauguration on May 30 could not take place due to incomplete works, most related to installation of chairs in the auditorium, sound, acoustics, air-conditioning and fitting of electrical appliances.
When Herald visited the site on Tuesday, the officials of the consultant and contractor informed that the Ravindra Bhavan will be handed over to the Directorate of Art and Culture on June 5 and the inauguration is scheduled on June 10.
It was also noticed that cracks on the walls on the third floor are not repaired, while a major part of painting, installation of seats in the auditorium, lighting, commissioning of central air-conditioning, sound, acoustics, clearing of debris, etc were incomplete.
When it was brought to the notice of officials of the consultant and contractor, they assured that they will complete the work within a week and hand it over to the Directorate of Art and Culture for the inauguration.
When contacted, Lolyekar said unless and until the Ravindra Bhavan is completed in all respects, his office will not take charge of the Bhavan.
“Our personnel visited the Bhavan on Monday and they have informed me about the shortfalls of the Bhavan. Before taking charge of the Bhavan, I will inspect it with our expertise and only after satisfying myself in all respects, we will take charge of the Bhavan and accordingly announce the date for its inauguration,” said Lolyekar.
