PANJIM: The deadline for the withdrawal of nomination for the Lok Sabha elections and the by-polls in three assembly constituencies ends on Monday.
The Office of the Chief Electoral Officer has received nominations from 43 candidates, including dummy candidates for two Lok Sabha seats – North and South – and by-elections in Mandrem, Shiroda and Mapusa to be held on April 23.
There are 27 candidates who have filed 44 nominations for the by-elections, while for the Lok Sabha 16 candidates have submitted 29 nominations.
The nomination process, which began on March 28, saw political parties – BJP, Congress, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), Maharashtrawadi Gomantak Party (MGP) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and Goa Suraksha Manch (GSM) fielding candidates for the polls along with some independents. April 4 was the last day for filing nominations.
