PERNEM: In a tragic accident, a 64-year-old woman from Ozari, Pernem died after the SUV she was travelling along with her son plunged into Tillari irrigation canal, near Sateli-Bhedshi, in Dodamarg taluka, of Maharashtra early Thursday morning.

The police gave the name of the victim as Shubhangi Parab.
The accident occurred at around 3 am when she along with her son Sachin were returning from Kolhapur to Pernem. Sachin along with his younger brother had gone to Kolhapur where their father Shiva, a retired government employee is undergoing cancer treatment.
The younger brother stayed with the father and Sachin was returning home with his mother when the tragedy took place.
On reaching near Sateli-Bhedshi, Sachin who was driving the SUV lost control of the vehicle and it fell into the Tillari canal. Sachin came out of the vehicle and pulled his mother out. Locals rushed to the spot and brought them out of the canal.
Shubhagi was immediately rushed to a near primary health centre at Sateli but succumbed to her grievous injuries on the way.
The Dodamarg police conducted the panchanama and handed over the body to the relatives for last rites. The vehicle was removed from the canal with the help of a crane.
