Won’t pay rent until MMC act on illegal stalls: Owners

MARGAO: The stall owners, who have set up stalls for a feast fair, on Tuesday, warned Margao Municipal Council (MMC) that they won’t pay their rent until the council acted on the alleged illegal stalls set up on the SGPDA ground and basic facilities provided.
The stall owners blamed the Chief Officer for allowing these illegal stalls. The market inspectors who came to the MMC fair stalls were confronted by the owners, who refused to pay the money to the MMC.
The stall owners complained that the MMC has not kept a uniform rate for the stalls, due to which has incurred losses to them.
“The MMC should have first created the facilities to the stall owners and people coming to the fair and then ask for money. Toilets, drinking water had to be made available. The MMC has allotted two feast fairs, one is legal and another is illegal,” alleged Sebestian Furtado.
“Until MMC resolves all our problems we won’t pay the rent,” said Sebestian.
“The MMC officials have come today to inform to pay. However, they have not resolved the dispute that has arisen due to the allotment of stalls at SGPDA,” said Aquib Shaikh.
