MARGAO: The Opposition councillors of Margao Municipal Council on Tuesday demanded a clear stand from the administration on the feast fair set up at the council land, which is presently underway.
Councillors Dorris Texeira, Ketan Kurtarkar, Jaffar Budhani, Rupesh Mahatme, Sugandha Bandekar, Damu Naik, Avinash Shirodkar along with others met the Chief Officer and demanded an answer on the number of stalls that have been set up, whether there is permission for the giant wheel, how much area is marked for stalls and also sought the details on collection of money.
“Till today how much the MMC has collected in form of ‘sopo’ at the feast fair. We also want to know the number of stalls as the person who has set up claims of 374 stalls whereas our inspection revealed that there are 600,” informed Dorris.
“The CO has told that the stall owners who have not paid the money today will be removed,” she said.
She further complained that every year the “sopo collector” ends up earning huge amount of money and the MMC loses a lot of revenue. Chief Officer Ajit Panchwadkar informed the councillors that he will recover the money from the staff if the stall owners don’t pay the rent which they owe to MMC.
