VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council in its meeting after a heated discussion on the Vaddem lake possession and maintenance issue deferred the matter and decision was taken to call a special meeting to discuss and decide about the Vaddem Lake.
During the council meeting, while discussing it came to light that Panchayati Raj Minister Mauvin Godinho has written letter to MMC urging to hand over the Vaddem Lake project to one landlord for the maintenance.
After hearing this, Councillor Shashikant Parab raised objection and added that MMC should look after the maintenance part of the lake project which was beautified by government fund.
Countering to his point, Councillor Lavina De Souza demanded that the lake should be handed over to the Church for its maintenance.
Councillor Fredrick Henriques came up with two suggestions and said that Ganesh immersion should continue to happen in the lake as done for many years and 50 per cent of the rental income from this lake premise should come to MMC.
After much heated discussion, Chairperson Nandadeep Raut decided to call a special meeting to decide and discuss on Vaddem Lake issue.
