VASCO: A group of citizens residing in and around Mormugao and Vasco have alleged that the ongoing construction of road over bridge-cum-flyover connecting MPT Berth 9 to NH 17B at Baina, executed by M/s Gammon India Ltd, on behalf Executive Engineer, Works-Division XIV (NH), PWD is out rightly illegal and in gross violation of the Goa Town & Country Planning Act.
They allege that the project proponent not only failed to obtain construction license for such a mega public project from the local municipal body. Besides, the loop ramps were not shown on the ODP 2026 of Vasco planning area.
On Tuesday a complaint in this regard was made mentioning all such issues and was officially submitted to MMC Chairperson Deepak Naik, Chief Office Agnelo Fernandes and Member Secretary of Mormugao Planning and Development Authority (MPDA), requesting them to immediately issue stop work notice to the project contractor.
We met MMC officials with our complaints about impending unauthorised construction of loop ramps on FL Gomes Road and near Cine El-Monte, and to express concerns about the possible serious consequences and ramifications, activist Savio Correia said, adding they noted some paint markings on the road near IOC Junction and near Cine El Monte in the last few days that ostensibly are of piers etc of the proposed loop ramps, thus indicating that the work is poised to commence at any moment.
We have learnt that the loop ramp connecting Vasco city is proposed to be constructed along the median of FL Gomes Road from near IOC Junction to land opposite Medina Masjid, he added.
The citizens have submitted that the loop ramp on FL Gomes Road will cause huge traffic congestion and inconvenience to the general public.
