VALPOI: Workers from the mining belt of Bicholim and Sanquelim areas on Thursday marched holding a peaceful protest from Karapur village junction to the Chief Minister’s office in Sanquelim.
Around three hundred plus workers, who participated in the protest, later submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister’s office.

The workers warned the government to resume mining in the State immediately or it will have to face consequences in the forthcoming Assembly elections.
“We are working at Sesa Mining Corporation Limited, Bicholim. We have already submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant to restart mining activities in Goa and we had also tried to meet the Chief Minister several times at his office in Sanquelim, but every time the Chief Minister’s office staff informs us that the Chief Minister is very busy. We cannot get his appointment,” claimed the workers.
“The BJP government has totally failed to resume mining in the State, despite being in ruling side since last decade. Now there is no hope of restarting the mining in Goa. The BJP government is only giving promises but not fulfilling,” said a worker Nilesh Karbotkar.
“The present government is still having time with them to restart the mining activities before the Assembly Elections Code of Conduct comes into effect. So we demand with the government to resume the mining activities in Goa immediately,” said another worker.
