The winners of the 2026 FIFA World Cup will not only lift football’s most prestigious trophy but will also receive a record-breaking financial reward. FIFA has announced that the tournament champions will earn $51 million, while the runners-up will take home $34 million as part of the governing body’s expanded prize pool for the first-ever 48-team World Cup.
Overall, FIFA will distribute a record $871 million among all participating nations, significantly higher than previous editions. The governing body increased the prize fund by more than $100 million earlier this year after several football federations, particularly from Europe, sought additional financial support to offset the higher travel and accommodation costs associated with a tournament spread across the United States, Canada and Mexico.

Every nation participating in the World Cup is guaranteed at least $12.5 million. This includes $10 million awarded for qualifying and competing in the group stage, along with an additional $2.5 million to cover preparation, training camps and other pre-tournament expenses. The prize money increases as teams advance through each knockout stage.
The quarterfinalists will each receive $20 million, while teams reaching the Round of 16 will earn $16 million. Nations eliminated in the Round of 32 will collect $12 million each, and teams exiting in the group stage will retain the guaranteed $10 million prize.
Besides the financial rewards, FIFA also covers business-class travel for delegations, hotel accommodation, domestic transport and logistics throughout the tournament. However, national federations remain responsible for insurance, additional delegation expenses and incidental hotel costs.
Although the prize money is paid directly to football federations, each country’s governing body determines how the funds are distributed among players and staff. Alongside the financial reward, the champions will also receive a gold-plated replica of the iconic FIFA World Cup trophy to commemorate their historic triumph.
