At least 11 people were killed and 30 others injured after a blast at a roadside police checkpoint in Dera Ismail Khan city of Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Saturday, according to officials.
The Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement, according to the Associated Press. Police and rescue officials said an explosives-laden vehicle was allegedly detonated by a suicide bomber at the checkpoint, triggering the explosion.

The injured were taken to a nearby hospital, with some reported to be in critical condition, a spokesperson for the provincial emergency service told AP.
Videos circulating on social media showed a large cloud of grey smoke rising from the reported site of the blast. Hindustan Times said it could not independently verify the footage.
The attack comes amid a reported rise in militant violence in Pakistan, with several recent attacks claimed by groups including the TTP and Baloch Liberation Army.
