WRD officials come to the rescue of Dhat-Sangod farmers

PONDA: The farmers from Dhat-Sangod have expressed happiness as their plantations have finally received water supply. As the supply from irrigation canal was interrupted for the last 25 days, the plantations were severely affected. However, the Water Resource Department officials and farmers managed to pump water from a nearby well.

According to sources, the canal from Collem to Sangod had dried up putting the farmers in tension. There were reports of leakages in the canal thus affecting the water supply to farms at Sangod.  Junior engineer Sagar Naik acted swiftly and fitted a 5HP pump and well water was drawn for about half day and supplied to the farmers. Local panch member Vithoba Melekar has demanded that pumps be fitted to nearby wells so as to enable uninterrupted water supply to the nearby plantations.
