Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has strongly defended party chief Mamata Banerjee amid the ongoing rebellion within the TMC, while also expressing respect for BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari’s decision to leave the party on clear terms. Responding to reports based on her recent interviews, Moitra accused sections of the media of selectively highlighting remarks to create sensational headlines.Speaking about the rebellion by several TMC MPs and MLAs, Moitra said that leaders now criticising Abhishek Banerjee had earlier contested elections on the party symbol despite his prominent role within the organisation. She questioned why they had remained silent at the time if they disagreed with his leadership style.Moitra noted that Suvendu Adhikari’s departure from the TMC was different because he openly disagreed with the party’s direction and chose to leave rather than remain within the organisation. She said there was merit in being transparent about political differences.The Krishnanagar MP also recalled her personal bond with Adhikari, revealing that he supported her during her early years in politics and stood by her during difficult moments. Despite now being in rival political parties, she said those memories continue to hold significance.Reaffirming her loyalty to Mamata Banerjee, Moitra maintained that party members are free to leave if unhappy, but criticised leaders who benefited from the party’s popularity before turning against its leadership.
