Zambaulim Shigmo, a significant cultural event in Goa, begins with the worship of the Holy Sriphal (coconut) at Shri Purushottam Keni’s residence in Comba, Margão. This tradition, practiced for over a century, involves placing the sacred coconut at the Comba residence on the Wednesday following Holi. The following Thursday, the coconut is carried in a grand procession to Zambaulim, marking the start of the celebrations. Historical records dating back to 1913 confirm the long-standing nature of this practice.
Once the coconut reaches Zambaulim, the festivities continue for several days. Programs are organized on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, featuring traditional performances and cultural displays. A special mahaprasad is served both in the afternoon and at night, attracting numerous devotees from Margão, who stay in Zambaulim to partake in the celebrations.
