ZP polls: Section 144 imposed in Davorlim and Cortalim on Oct 16,18

The Collectorate has also warned of strict action under Sections 171-B and 171-C of the Indian Penal Code against attempts of bribery and undue influence of any person or voter.

MARGAO: In wake of the Zilla Panchayat by-elections, the South Goa district collectorate on Friday imposed Section 144 in Davorlim ZP constituency in Salcete and Cortalim ZP constituency in Mormugao taluka on October 16 and 18.  

The prohibitory orders have been issued by the South Goa District Collector Jyoti Kumari and all restaurants, bars, tea shops, paan shops, eateries and other food shops in Davorlim and Cortalim, located within 200 meters of the polling stations shall remain closed from 6 am to 6 pm on the day of polls, October 16 and the establishments in the vicinity of counting centres on the day of counting, October 18, shall remain closed from 6 am till the counting of votes is complete.

There is also a ban on any gathering of more than five persons within 200 meters of the polling stations. The State government has also imposed a ban on transportation of liquor within the poll bound areas of Cortalim and Davorlim from October 15 to 18.
