Lawry Travasso’s 70th audio CD ‘Saibinn Amchi Maim’ has a collection of 13 songs, which include 11 solos and two duets. He has attributed his album to all those who have moved away from the Catholic Church with disbelief in Mother Mary, praying for wisdom to prevail over the ignorant minds.
The title song, ‘Saibinn Amchi Maim’ by Lawry Travasso, urges the listener to think about the existence of humans, their growth and survival without a mother. He appeals everyone not to deny Mother Mary for greed of money. And to those who deny her, he invokes Our Lady of Vailankanni to seek justice.
The following song, ‘Chris Perry’, rendered by Lorna in her inimitable style, highlights the good qualities of the King of Songs and describes him as a man of a different nature. Even after death, she says songs like ‘Bebddo’, ‘Piso’, ‘Sorga Rajeant’ and ‘Calangute’ will remain immortal for ages to come. She recalls songs penned by the legendry musician and rendered by the singer with nostalgia. She finally appeals to the government to erect a statue in his honour.
Two solos in the album – ‘Maim Ti Maim’ and ‘Tornatteank Lissaum’ – by Lawry throws light on the sacrifices made by the mother towards her son in two different situations and its consequences. Similarly, two songs, ‘Peter and Maria’ and Phonar Uloinaka’, rendered by the same singer narrates true life incidents with a moral as their conclusions.
The song ‘Facebook’ speaks about the graveness when a fake Facebook ID is created while ‘Online’ focuses on the Goan household with the comparison between past, present and the future. The latter is rendered in a humorous tone.
While the duet ‘O Carol’ rendered by Lawry and Lorna to the tune of the popular English pop song ‘O Carol’ tells the tale of two lovers and the tragedy that strikes due to silence from one party, another duet, ‘Zolmachea Disa’, is a conversation between a seafarer and his spouse on her birthday.
Other songs in the album brings to the fore the good qualities of priests, police personnel, besides the state of affairs during the reign of the BJP state government. Roping in the nightingale of Goa, Lorna, the album gets automatically enriched with her multifarious voice. The addition of a duo, trio and quartet could give added boost to the album while breaking the monotony of mere solos and duets.
Other than the splendid combination of Lawry and Lorna’s voices, musical score by Norman Cardozo, with Anthony de Velim (first/second trumpet), Cris Correia (lead/rhythm guitar), Sergie Godinho (bass), Victor D’Costa (violin) and Agnelo D’Silva (drums) elevates the standard of the album.
