Aldona United defeated Fahaheel Brothers, Kuwait 3-2 via the tie-breaker to lift Shaikha Huda Bader Mohammad Al Ahmed Al Sabah 7-a-side memorial soccer trophy organised by Real Betalbatim Football Club on the occasion of National Day of Kuwait recently.
Teams were divided into four groups for the league round. Two teams from each group qualified for the knock-out, beginning with the quarter-finals.
In the quarter-finals, Fahaheel Brothers knocked out Vanxim Diwar-Dubai via the tie-breaker.
Aldona United topped pool B with 13 points with four wins and a draw and made their way to the quarter-finals defeating Kuwait Goan Association and beat DHL FC in the semi-finals, both with goalless draws.
In all, 22 teams participated.
CRC Chinchinim and DHL FC secured the third and fourth places respectively.
Following individual prizes were awarded: Man of the match – Sonu Halankar (Aldona United FC). Best goalkeeper – Flackson Fernandes (Aldona United FC). Best defender of the finals – Devendra Kauthankar (Aldona United FC). Best defender of the tournament – Russel Rodrigues (Vanxim, Diwar). Best midfielder – Fahaheel Brothers. Best disciplined team – Vanxim, Diwar.
Earlier, Indian Ambassador to Kuwait, Ajay Malhotra inaugurated the tournament.
