MARGAO: Ambelim Veterans got the better of hosts Navelim Veterans 5-4 via the tie-breaker to storm into the quarter-finals of all-Goa Navelim Veterans football tournament organized by Navelim Veterans at Rosary ground, Navelim, Saturday. There was no score at half time.
Navelim Veterans were well served by their stalwarts and held a slight edge over their opponents but Ambelim Veterans goalkeeper Rajesh Gaonkar kept them at bay and produced superlative saves to keep his slate clean.
Navelim Veterans continued to enjoy the better exchanges and also ball possession but Ambelim goalkeeper Rajesh was rock solid and denied Orlando Viegas, Frank Fernandes and Domnic Cabral.
In the tiebreaker, Benjamin Silva, Pedro Fernandes, Prisco Fernandes, Steven D’Souza and John Leitao were on target for Ambelim while Frank Fernandes, Orlando Viegas and Claude Dias and Raju Raikar converted for Navelim.
Ambelim goalkeeper Rajesh Gaonkar was adjudged man-of-the-match.
