PANJIM: Geno Pharmaceutical Brand Ambassador Audi Ameya won the 41st Harkany Tenkes Cup Chess Tournament , held in Hungary, on Thursday and achieved his first IM norm.
Ameya has now a rating of 2428 and now ranks second in Goa, after GM Anuragh Mhamal.
The young Goan lad collected eight points out of possible nine in the tournamet. Ameya defeated GM Farago Ivan of Hungary, IM Kernazhitsky Leonid of Russia, WIM Kareva Natalia of Russia, and FM Pasztor Ferenc of Hungary and drew with GM Chernyshov Konstantin of Russia.
Ameya had 7 wins and 2 draws to tally 8 points out of the 9 rounds, and remained unbeatable.
“Winning a tournament is always good but claiming an international title is very special. It’s a great moment for me as I earned my first IM norm,” said Ameya.
“I would like to thank my God, my parents, coaches and Goa Chess Association for their constant and never ending supports.” Said Ameya.
GCA President Nilesh Cabral congratulated the young players and said, “Another title for Goan player. Congratulations to Ameya on winning the Harkany Tenkes crown.
