PANJIM: Anurag Mhamal won the gold at Asian Junior Blitz Chess Championship 2013 in Sharjah, UAE. He scored eight points out of nine rounds, having lost just one game. He finished ahead of GM Sahej Grover (2472) and GM Salem Saleh (2534)  who won the silver and bronze respectively.

Anurag defeated GM Sahej Grover (India), GM Salem Saleh (UAE), IM Iyti Basher (Syria), IM Gameel Mohamed (Yamen), FM Chahrour Ibrahim(Libya), FM Hosseinipour Mehdi (Iran) and Hamdan Marshool (UAE).

Anurag already got 1 GM norm and 2 IM norms besides increasing his rating to 2401 by playing in many GM tournaments in India and abroad. He is presently ranked No. 2 in U-18 Nationals. He requires 1 IM norm and 2 GM norms.

Meanwhile, GCA president Ashesh Keni, treasurer Kishor Bandekar, joint secretary Balakrishnan V, Mahesh Candolkar, Tiswadi taluka president congratulated Anurag for the wonderful performance.
