VILLA-MAREX-CHANDOR: Areal Veterans defeated Fatorda Veterans 9-8 via the tie-breaker to move into the quarter-finals of the Villa Marex Veterans football tournament organised by Villa Marex Chandor Areal, at Villa Marex ground, Cavorim Chandor, on Friday.
Areal striker Seby Faleiro was in thick of action with his dribbling, tackling and shooting power.
In the fourth minute, Seby took control of the ball from Albino Gomes and dribbled past Fatorda defender Caitan Dias and Sebastiao Furtado and shot from close range but the Fatorda keeper was equal to the task.
Five minutes later, Fatorda’s Agustinho Noronha took a power-packed shot but failed to convert.
It was Fatorda’s Seby Vaz who netted the first goal of the match with a placement shot in the 18th minute but the joy was short-lived as Seby Faleiro equalised for Areal in the 20th minute.
Thereafter, Areal’s Jose Carvalho doubled the lead in the 25th minute.
Fatorda’s Sanjay Borkar levelled terms in the 48th minute.
In the resultant tie-breaker, Areal proved to be better shooters.
